Time Line Therapy Part I



Time Line Therapy™ ditemukan oleh Dr.Tad James pada tahun 1985 dan sekarang ini sudah diakui di hampir seluruh belahan dunia.



MENGHILANGKAN EMOSI NEGATIF

Teknik yang ampuh, cepat, mudah dan menyenangkan ini dapat menghilangkan emosi negatif yang tidak Anda inginkan seperti : reaksi marah yang berlebihan/ temperamental, apatis, trauma, phobia dan disamping itu teknik ini juga digunakan untuk mempercepat proses penyembuhan dan atau “pain control”.

MENEMUKAN TIME LINE

Siapakah kita sekarang, kalau bukan sebuah koleksi dari memori–memori yang juga terekam berumur-umur kemudian juga berpengaruh pada bagaimana kita bertindak terhadap sesuatu.
Time Line adalah sebuah katalog atau directory untuk meng”encode” pikiran bawah sadar (PBS) dan kebanyakan semua terjadi secara tidak sadar pula. Sekarang coba pikir, Anda bangun di pagi hari yang segar, sinar matari yang hangat menyelinap masuk di sela–sela gorden kamar tidur Anda dan… Coba ingat siapakah NAMA Anda? Yes! Yang jelas kita tahu persis pada saat kita bangun kita tahu bahwa SAYA adalah SAYA.

Bisa dibayangkan kalau pikiran bawah sadar kita tidak mengelola memori kita, mungkin kita akan lupa nama kita setiap bangun pagi, heemmm apa jadinya.
Sekarang, katakan no telpon rumah Anda sendiri dalam hati, sebelum Anda berpikir untuk mengatakannya dalam hati, dimana nomor–nomor itu di simpan? yang pasti ada disuatu tempat, bukan?
Pikiran bawah sadar adalah bagian dari pikiran kita yang kita tidak secara sadar menyadarinya yang merupakan bagian penting dalam diri Anda. Bayangkan sejenak, siapa yang menjalankan tugas untuk mengedipkan mata, memacu denyut jantung, memproses makanan di dalam perut. Dan banyak hal yang mungkin tak terpikirkan oleh kita.
Penghargaan terhadap PBS, bahwa PBS adalah sumber untuk setiap PEMBELAJARAN, PERUBAHAN dan PERILAKU.

Saya yakin Anda pembaca percaya dengan Pikiran Bawah Sadar (PBS), ya bukan? Kalau Anda tidak percaya pada PBS Anda, siapa lagi yang bisa Anda percaya?
Bagaimana meng-elicit dan atau mengetahui time line Anda
  1. Ingatlah sesuatu hal yang telah terjadi bulan lalu, setahun lalu, 2 tahun yang lalu, 3, 4, 5…10 tahun yang lalu.
    Misalnya; kapan Anda membayar tagihan listrik bulan lalu?
  2. Nah pada saat Anda mengingatnya, dapatkah Anda sadari bahwa memori itu datang atau berasal dari dan menuju arah mana.
    Anda mungkin akan merasa itu masa lalu datang dari sebelah kiri dan masa depan menuju ke kanan, dan bahkan saya punya klien yang time line nya spiral.
    Saya percaya semua masa lalu saya datang dan berasal dari belakang kepala saya, dan masa depan kepala menuju ke depan. Ini sangat individual dan beragam.
  3. Ulangi langkah 1 & 2 untuk 1 bulan ke depan ,1 tahun, 2, 3...5 tahun ke depan atau 10 tahun ke depan.
  4. Sekarang gambarkan, dimanakah ”The Past” dan "The Future"? yang apabila keduanya di hubungkan dapat membentuk sebuah garis (tidak selalu garis lurus , bisa berupa kurva, spiral, dsb).
  5. Apabila Anda belum menemukannya, ulangi langkah 1-4, dan yang penting bangunlah hubungan dengan pikiran bawah sadar Anda. Tanyakan pada PBS anda

Mungkin sebagian dari Anda berpikir dan berkata dalam hati ”Ah...saya tidak bisa ?”

Proses ini bukan proses konsep logika, Kita semua menghargai proses logis dan rasional. Time line adalah cara bagaimana PBS kita memyimpan memori, tidak ada Time Line yang benar atau salah, baik, lebih baik atau kurang baik. Ini hanya cara PBS menyimpan memori. Time Line Anda bisa berasal dari kiri ke kanan, atas ke bawah atau sebaliknya atau bahkan tidak membentuk garis lurus. Bagaimapun bentuk Time Line Anda, itu adalah yang terbaik untuk Anda.

Tujuan dari latihan ini adalah untuk mengetahui Time Line Anda, dan rasakan sendiri MANFAATNYA.

Di bawah ini kemungkinan macam–macam Time Line – ini adalah generalisasi, karena Time Line tidak selalu berbentuk garis lurus (lihat gambar).

Saya juga akan berbagi mengenai bagaimana menggunakan Time Line Therapy™ untuk menghilangkan rasa was-was dan rasa cemas .

Rasa cemas atau rasa was–was adalah sebuah emosi negatif dimana kita takut pada sesuatu yang sebernarnya belum terjadi. Kabar buruknya adalah perasaan ini kadang dapat merusak “mood” atau kondisi kita, bukan.

  1. Temukan Time Line Anda (Jika belum, ikuti langkah menemukan Time Line diatas)
  2. Ambil satu peristiwa yang Anda cemas atau khawatirkan. Cari apa sebanarnya yang anda cemaskan
  3. Kemudian mengambang naik diatas Time Line dan pergi ke 15 menit SETELAH peristiwa yang Anda cemaskan TELAH terselesaikan dengan BERHASIL dan SUKSES.
  4. Setelah Anda sampai disana putar badan dan Anda menghadap dan lihat SEKARANG dan sepanjang Time Line Anda.

What is Time Line Therapy®?

Time Line Therapy Technique

Time Line Therapy is an offshoot of Neuro Linguistic Programming and Ericksonian Hypnosis. Developed by Tad James in 1985, the first book about it, called Time Line Therapy and the Basis of Personality, was published in 1988.

Overview: From the time of Aristotle to William James to Freud and Jung to Milton Erickson, M.D., people interested in Psychology have been searching for a way to adequately describe the human experience of time. Time Line Therapy, as a model, has the potential to not only make sense out of our temporal experience, but also to change our understanding of how negative emotions and limiting decisions affect us, as well as describing how to create a meaningful future, because with Time Line Therapy we now understand the human temporal experience= and can change the basic elements that make up someone's history.

Your Time Line: Your Time Line is how your unconscious mind encodes and stores your memories. It's how you know the difference between a past memory, and a future dream? Your Time Line is largely an unconscious process, and like remembering your home phone number, you may be more or less aware of it from time to time.

Releasing Negative Emotions: With the Time Line Therapy= techniques, we now have for the first time, a way to resolve significant events in a person's past. We also gain the ability to release the negative emotions in those memories easily and quickly, in a reasonable amount of time. Obviously, the release of negative emotions in a substantial number of a person's memories will have an impact on their behavior. Stop, and think about it for a moment, what would be the impact on you, if we had released all of the anger in your past memories, while preserving the learnings from those events. Or how about the sadness, fear, guilt or any other negative emotion.

Eliminating Limiting Decisions: Next, what if you could go back and re-do any old decision that you made in the past, and decide in a new way -- a way that supported who you want to be now? Then, what if we could have every event in the past be reevaluated in such a way as to support the way you wanted to be now? With Time Line Therapy, we also have the ability to reevaluate our past, and change any decision which limits us. To a certain extent our behavior is guided by the decisions that we've made in the past. Whether conscious or unconscious, these decisions affect our behavior in the present. Our decisions are stored in the Time Line, and through our Time Line we gain access to them.

Create the Future: Finally, what if you had a reliable way to create your future the way you wanted it, and actually have that thing or event happen? The processes for creating your future are as powerful as the processes for releasing negative emotions, and clearing out limiting decisions.
These three techniques comprise the major techniques of Time Line Therapy as it is taught today, which we present to you for your consideration.

The Time Line Therapy techniques are a relatively recent development. = The idea of an individual having a means of knowing the difference between memories of the past, and the future, or having a "Time Line" is not. Aristotle was one of the first in our culture to mention the idea of a "Time Line" in Physics IV, for the Greeks had a clear idea of temporality. Our having a Time Line may be, at least in part, a result of the structure our= language.

ARISTOTLE: "Western minds represent time as a straight line upon which we stand with our gaze directed forward; before us we have the future and behind us the past. On this line we can unequivocally define all tenses by means of points. The present is the point on which we are standing , the future is found on some point in front of us, and in between lies the exact future; behind us lies the perfect, still farther back the imperfect, and farther yet the pluperfect. ... The Greek language also has corresponding verb-forms which can be delineated in quite similar manner on a straight time-line. ... According to Aristotle, therefore, we must represent time by the image of a line (more accurately: by the image of movement along a line), either a circular line ... or a straight line." [Hebrew, pp 124-6]

WILLIAM JAMES: Time Line Therapy has its roots in traditional psychological thinking, and is based on earlier models, which preceded it. William James, in Principles of Psychology, in 1890 says, "If the constitution of consciousness were that of a string of bead-like sensations all separate ... we should be wholly incapable of acquiring experience. ... Whether a highly developed practical life be possible under such conditions as these is more than doubtful ..." He described the experience of time, "In short, the practically cognized present is no knife- edge, but a saddle-back with a certain breadth of its own on which we sit perched and from which we look in two directions in time. ... Date in time corresponds to direction in space. ... If we represent the actual time-stream of our thinking by an horizontal line, the thought of the stream or of any segment of its length, past, present, or to come, might be figured in a perpendicular raised upon the horizontal at a certain point." He says, "Some things we date simply by tossing them into a past or future direction." And so, "memory gets strewn with dated things -- dated in the sense of being before or after each other. The date of a thing is a mere relation of before or after the present thing or some past or future thing." [Principles, pp 396-413]

MILTON ERICKSON: Time Line Therapy also has its roots in the work of Milton Erickson, who until his death in 1980, was the world's foremost Hypnotherapist. Erickson, almost single-handedly, brought hypnosis out of the closet, and made it possible for the American medical and psychiatric community to accept it as a "legitimate form of treatment." In the early 1960's Erickson was using an hypnotic technique which, remarkably, was quite like Time Line Therapy.

"One hypnotic phenomenon can be used to induce another. The movie screen can be employed as an uncovering technique. The patient looks at it, sees his past ... He can look at the screen, lose his own identity, and observe various traumatic experiences that occurred in his own life experience. ..." The client can look at his past and his future in a non-threatening way: "... the patient saw himself at a later age; on another, at a still later age -- all the way from five years of age on up to thirty-two. ... Then he was allowed to set up another screen where he could see himself as he hoped to appear next year. Thus he was led to recognize what he wanted in his future, what was meaningful for him in that future. ... That technique has been called pseudo- orientation into the future. Just as one can orient a patient back to the past, so one can project himself into the future in accordance with his own motivations and ... desires." [Practical, pp 342- 344]

YOUR MEMORIES: Who are you if not your collection of memories? For almost 100 years, psychologists have agreed that our past experiences do determine who we are, and how we act. In fact, Peter Brown, M.D. (1991) says that "Memory is the matrix of personal identity." Time Line Therapy now gives a reliable way to affect our memories in a way to change our future.
Time Line Therapy was developed by: Tad James, M.S., Ph.D. Tad is= a Master Trainer of NLP, and an acknowledged expert in the field of Hypnosis. He is an active participant on the Internet, and he answers questions and provides support for people interested in NLP, Time Line Therapy, and= Hypnosis.

What is NLP?

Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is an applied system based on the subjective study of language, communication and change. It was co-founded by Richard Bandler and linguist John Grinder in the 1970s as a method of personal development. They developed a set of practices and techniques based on modeling successful psychotherapists of the time. However, its application was not limited to psychotherapy, rather they attended to the communication patterns that could be applied generally. Its theoretical foundations borrowed from a range of disciplines, including various psychological fields, linguistics, cognitive science and occupational therapy. NLP and its many variants are taught through seminars, workshops, books and audio programs. The field is loosely spread and resistant to a single comprehensive definition. There is also a great deal of difference between the depth and breadth of training and standards.

An important assumption of NLP is that emotion, thought and behavior consists of, and is influenced by, how the sensory-specific modalities (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, olfactory, gustatory) are organized and give rise to consciousness.[1] Further, the mode and limits to the underlying mental representations is revealed by unconscious choice of words, sensory-specific predicates (eg. visual language) and non-verbal cues (such as intonation; gesture; posture; facial expression and eye movements). A basic method in NLP involves asking specifying questions to help clarify the intended message in communication. It seeks to recover what has been left out and to reframe faulty thinking when the communication is distorted or over-generalised. These meta-model questions are often combined with suggestions for personal growth and potential.[2] Another technique alters the brightness, size or location of visual imagery or similar features of the other sensory-specific submodalities, to affect the intensity of states and affect changes in behavior. A classic format has people anchor resourceful mental states (eg. creativity, confidence, etc.) to make them available in situations where a person wants to act differently. Generally, the intent of NLP is to increase choice in the underlying representations so that the individual has more choice and flexibility in the world.

In the early 1980s, NLP was heralded as a important advance in psychotherapy and counseling.[3] Reviews of research in counseling psychology at this time found little empirical support for NLP assumptions or effectiveness in the literature, in particular the claim that matching sensory predicates improves rapport and influence.[4][5] The lack of support in the literature reviews marked a significant decrease in research interest.[6] Some psychologists and trauma researchers have criticised the hype surrounding NLP, particularly given its lack of empirical validation, exaggerated claims and continued marketing as a science which are regarded as features of pseudoscience.[7][8][3] There has been some ongoing research efforts and pleas for further empirical research.[citation needed] In contrast, the developers of NLP tend to use analogies to understand and describe their models and tend to rely on intuition, anecdotes and personal experience as evidence as opposed to experimental research. NLP and its related techniques continue to be popular in books and workshops, especially in some areas of psychotherapy, management training, self-help, education and motivational training.
